Prenatal and Postpartum Care
The support you need during pregnancy!

Pregnancy is a time full of changes. Whether you are enjoying every minute, struggling with health issues, or anywhere in between, Bay Pointe Chiropractic in Commerce Township is here to support you through.

During pregnancy, a woman’s body must undergo a number of different changes to accommodate the growing baby. Due to the weight that is gained, a mother’s center of gravity moves from its natural position, shifting to the front of her pelvis. This can add stress and discomfort to the lower back and various joints in the pelvis. Chiropractic is a powerful and effective way to care for your body naturally throughout all the weekly changes.
No matter what your birth plan is, you and your baby can surely benefit from regular chiropractic care and you will love the balance and relaxation that comes with a healthy spine and nervous system. Your muscles, organs (including your uterus and cervix), and every cell in the body are connected to your brain through your nerves. Guess what protects your nerves? That’s right, your spine! And your spine changes a TON during the course of 40 weeks!
No matter if you are trying to get pregnant, you just found out, or you’re about to pop, chiropractic care is great at any stage throughout the process. We always say, the sooner the better, but it’s never too late!

Experience and certification.

Dr. Megan Hotrum is trained and certified in the Webster Technique by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. This technique is a specific chiropractic analysis of the sacrum, pelvis, and spine, with various adjustments, soft tissue releases, and corrective techniques. According to the ICPA The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.” It is sacral subluxation and SI joint dysfunction and their aberrant effect on the uterus which may prevent the baby from comfortably assuming the best possible position for birth.
Obstetric literature has determined that correct positioning of the baby in-utero affects birth outcome and decreases the potential for undue stress to the baby’s developing spine and nerve system. The obstetric literature has also determined the importance of pelvic neuro-biomechanics for the prevention of dystocia (difficult birth). Chiropractic literature has determined the significance of sacral adjusting in normalizing pelvic neuro-biomechanics.
Subluxations (misalignments and nerve dysfunction) of the sacrum, pelvis, and spine may contribute to difficult labor for the birthing person. The uterus, pelvic muscles, and position of the baby are all related to the function of the nervous system. Correction of spinal subluxations allows for increased nerve function which enhances functions of the muscles and organs involved in pregnancy and birth.
